Two precious treasure chests of art set in the center of Florence but far from the clamor of the crowd, the Museum of San Marco and the Cenacle of Santa Apollonia will offer the public an even more evocative visit from June to October with the musical counterpoints of the Orchestra’s ensembles from Camera di Firenze. The exhibition, which opens on 21 June for the Music Festival and ends on 26 October, will range from Bach to Mozart to Ravel and, inevitably, to Puccini in the centenary year, up to Morricone’s music for the big screen, Bakalov, Piovani, Rota. The project was financed by the Ministry of Culture – General Directorate of Entertainment and carried out by the Regional Directorate of National Museums of Tuscany together with the Florentine Chamber Orchestra.

The ten musical moments will enhance and accompany the experience of visiting the spaces of the monumental library of Michelozzo, the small refectory and the cloister of Sant’Antonino at the Museum of San Marco and the Cenacle of Santa Apollonia, transforming it from contemplative to immersive in the infinite references and non-didactic dialogues between notes and visions of art, in a non-static listening mode, with the usual sessions, but itinerant and enveloping.

The masterpieces of Beato Angelico, Ghirlandaio, Fra Bartolomeo, Andrea del Castagno and the monumental architecture of Michelozzo in San Marco, the Cloister, the Refectory and the Library, which normally welcome the public with surprisingly reserved and silently collected spaces, are they will play the notes of the Florentine Chamber Orchestra.

In the name of Bach, the inaugural event on Friday 21 June at the San Marco Museum (11am) together with the Fiorentina Chamber Orchestra conducted by Giuseppe Lanzetta: two famous “Brandenburg Concerts” on the program, soloists Marco Lorenzini on violin, Angela Camerini and Filippo Mannucci on flutes.

Tutto Puccini on Saturday 29 June at the San Marco Museum (10am), together with the Quartet of the Florentine Chamber Orchestra.

Friday 5 July at the Cenacolo of Santa Apollonia (10 am) an event dedicated to the seventh art, with soundtracks by Morricone, Bakalov, Piovani and Rota performed by the soloists of the Florentine Chamber Orchestra.

“The human voices” is the duo formed by Leonardo Percival Paoli on the bassoon and Gabriele Bracci on the cello – both first parts of the Ogi – on stage on Tuesday 16 July at the San Marco Museum (10 am): from baroque to classicism, from Bach to Mozart.

Puccini again, with arias from “La Bohème”, “Turandot”, Friday 19 July Museum of San Marco (10 am): Sofia Paterni on the harp accompanies the soprano Valeria Lanini.

After the August break, the event starts again on Thursday 5 September at the San Marco Museum (10am): on stage the Elleboros Quartet, music by Fauré and Ravel. Coming soon are the concerts of the Fiorentina Chamber Orchestra at the Cenacolo of Sant’Apollonia (Sat 9pm 11am), of the Hungarica Ensemble Horvath at the Museum of San Marco (7/10am 10am), of the piano duo Giacomo Alessandrini and Francesco Marri at Cenacle of Sant’Apollonia (9/10 at 10am). The event ends at the Cenacolo of Sant’Apollonia with two extraordinary double bass players, Andrea Bocini and Antonio Mercurio, guests of the Fiorentina Chamber Orchestra directed by Giuseppe Lanzetta (26/10 at 10am).

“This is an important opportunity – declares Stefano Casciu, Regional Director of the National Museums of Tuscany – allowed by the funding granted to us by the Ministry of Culture, to propose suggestive musical interventions in some museums entrusted to the experience of the Florentine Chamber Orchestra, directed by Giuseppe Lanzetta, and his musicians, with a varied program of certain interest for the public visiting our museum sites, who may be surprised and welcomed by famous musical pieces or less usual but equally significant proposals, in the sign of the fusion between different arts.”

The concerts are free in the Cenacolo of Sant’Apollonia and included in the entrance ticket to the Museum of San Marco: full €8.00, reduced €2.00 for EU citizens between 18 and 25 years old. The ticket can also be purchased with the 18app culture bonus. Tickets are also on sale online. Optional reservations + €3.00. Tel: +39 055 294883. Booking cost: €3.00.
