Rome, 14 June. (askanews) – “Freedom, defense of memory, inclusion and solidarity”. These are the words chosen by 1500 Italian secondary school students as part of a project of the Ministry of Education and Merit (MIM), carried out during the school year, for the “Promotion of books and reading ”, promoted by the Treccani Cultura ETS Foundation and by Edulia Treccani Scuola, the Group’s ed-tech hub
Over 1500 students from 12 secondary schools, distributed throughout Italy, have chosen Freedom, Future, Memory, Inclusion and Solidarity as key words of this era, as part of a project of the Ministry of Education and Merit , carried out during the school year, for the “Promotion of books and reading”, promoted by the Treccani Cultura ETS Foundation and by Edulia Treccani Scuola, the Group’s ed-tech hub.
In first place of the five chosen by the students was the word Freedom, voted by 500 students, followed with equal votes by Future and Memory, 375, and Inclusion and Solidarity with 125 votes.
“This choice – comment Valeria Della Valle and Giuseppe Patota, co-directors of the Treccani Italian Dictionary – demonstrates how attentive young people are to current events and the reality that surrounds us, also from a lexical point of view. Freedom, being free, not being able to give up freedom, as opposed to slavery and imprisonment, is a term that recurs more and more often in the debate and expresses the desire to think, operate and choose one’s life independently, typical of the new generations. But the result of the research promoted by the Institute of the Italian Encyclopedia in Schools once again confirms the linguistic relevance for young people of a sustainable future, of the preservation of historical memory and the diffusion of a social sensitivity made of solidarity and inclusion”.
With the project “Ti Leggo. Journey with Treccani in the forms of reading”, Treccani Cultura wants to encourage the diffusion and promotion of books and reading through a review of cultural initiatives aimed at students of secondary schools, which includes a reflection with some of the most important authors of the entries of the Institute of the Italian Encyclopedia.
