Terni: the ‘rebel’ class meets again 50 years after graduation

14 Jun 2024 17:48

At the end of the first four-year period of the fifth year of high school – it was 1974 and the class was the 5th B of the ‘Galilei’ scientific high school in Terni – everyone had a 7 in conduct, except four students who had a 6. A sign of ‘turbulent’ years, also for political issues, facts of protests but also reflections, spirit of sharing, debates, construction of ideas and the future. Now that class which in its own way has left a trace, has come together to celebrate the beautiful milestone of 50 years since graduation, which was then achieved. «Later in life – says Sandro Corsi, student of that 5th B – I don’t think we did badly: today teachers, entrepreneurs, builders, doctors, public figures, business managers and in any case all exemplary citizens».

«In that class of all males, perhaps also for this reason so united, beyond the socio-economic differences – continues Corsi, who is the president of the social coop Actl – there was a mix resulting from the anti-authoritarian rebelism that arose from ’68 which reverberated in some in political commitment to the extra-parliamentary and revolutionary left and in others towards a playful and irreverent common action. In this melting pot of carefree vitality we had a lot of fun but we also studied and did two months of self-management, marked by profound cultural research and innovative study. Particular praise goes to Corrado Goracci who, to participate in the dinner, returned specifically from Egypt where he has lived permanently for over 40 years.”

Doctor Fabrizio Arcangeli, at the dermatology clinic of the ‘Santa Maria’ hospital in Terni, was also happy with the experience: «One never knows exactly what to expect in these cases but I can say that the experience of seeing each other again , after a long time, was exciting, very successful. It seemed like not even a year had passed between anecdotes, jokes and laughter, and then also Roberto Casini’s music: everything was beautiful. There were many of us, a thought went to those who left us prematurely, and we were able to re-establish that ‘climate’ that gave us so many happy memories. We were a class that was a bit ‘over the top’ for that time, today things would be different, but everyone then took their own path in life, with satisfaction and also a certain pride.”

This is the ‘training’ of the boys who left ‘Galilei’ in 1974, immortalized in the souvenir photo of ’50 years later’: standing from left to right Massimo Ponteggia, Sergio Fabrini, Alberto Pennacchi, Maurizio Parisi, Roberto Casini, Enrico Pentasuglia, Maurizio Bufi, Roberto Taddei, Giorgio Petroni, Fabrizio Arcangeli, Maurizio Fossatelli, Claudio Bifolchetti, Giulianello Carli, Gianpaolo De Giorgis (back), Giuseppe Manno (front), Antonio Ranucci, Bruno Falcioni, Carlo Giani.
