World Blood Donor Day is celebrated today, Friday 14 June, an event which aims to raise awareness and promote the importance of donating blood.

This year the slogan chosen by the World Health Organization is “Let solidarity circulate”, a theme that clearly demonstrates the importance of periodic blood and plasma donation, vital for giving hope to chronic patients and those in need of transfusion support.

To underline the immense value of voluntary, anonymous, free, periodic and responsible donation, the associations AFDS Pordenone ODV and AVIS Provinciale Pordenone ODV, in collaboration with the Transfusion Department of Pordenone, have created the third edition of “10 thousand steps & 1 gift” , an initiative which, in addition to raising awareness of blood donation, places emphasis on the need to promote correct lifestyles also linked to healthy sporting activity. Specifically, the project aims to encourage participants to take a walk in the “10 thousand steps of health” circuits also with the promise of making a blood or plasma donation by September. Anyone who goes to the blood transfusion center will be given a free water bottle.

The initiative, started on April 1st, ended today, June 14th, with very important data:

163 recordings for 2,054,006 steps (with an average of 12,601 steps)
