University of Bergamo, eight out of ten graduates find work in a year

Among the percentages from the annual report on the profile and employment status of graduates presented by the AlmaLaurea inter-university consortium, one figure stands out: among students of the University of Bergamo, the employment rate one year after obtaining the three-year degree is 80, 5%. In contrast to the national figure of 74.1%.
“We are proud of it,” he underlines the rector Sergio Cavalieri, broadening the horizon to the territorial context.

«In Bergamo there is a strong need in the economic-productive, but also socio-cultural fabric, to have graduates capable of operating within different organizations – continues Cavalieri -. Working in concert with stakeholders reduces the risk of mismatch between the training offer and what the labor market requires.”

Employment performance improves among second level graduates, i.e. young people in possession of a specialist degree. After one year, the employment rate is 81.1% (in Italy it is 75.7%). After five years this percentage reaches 91.1%. As for the types of contracts: 40.6% of young people with a specialist degree can count on a permanent employment contract after one year (this rises to 67.1% after five years), while 25.8% have a fixed-term determined (13.8% after five years).

The average salary is 1,458 euros net per month, albeit with differences depending on the sector of employment: among graduates in the artistic, literary and education areas the average salary is 1,324 euros; in the economic-legal field the average earns 1,424 euros; Stem subjects (English acronym for science, technology, engineering and mathematics) earn 1,721 euros. Five years after the specialist training, salaries rise to an average of 1,757 euros net per month.

AlmaLaurea’s survey on employment conditions focused on a total sample of 6,619 first and second level graduates from the University of Bergamo. While the report that analyzed the profile of graduates was based on a sample of approximately 300 thousand students from 78 universities.

Of these, 4,419 were enrolled last year at the Orobic University. Here the average age at graduation is 25.6 years and 67.6% of students graduate on time with an average of 100.7 out of 110. 4.1% of graduates come from abroad (“thank you the attractiveness of master’s courses in English has grown”, reflects the rector) and 82.3% of those who obtained the degree worked during their university studies. «We have around twenty tutors dedicated to working students — highlights the rector -. In this way they have the opportunity, even in the evening or on Saturday, to delve deeper into any topics that are not clear.”

As regards the “satisfaction” chapter: 92.7% of graduates declare themselves satisfied with the university experience as a whole and 71.9% of them would enroll again at the University of Bergamo choosing the same course.

University which, tomorrow (Saturday 15 June), will celebrate its master’s graduates with the Graduation Day in the setting of the Aula Magna of Sant’Agostino.
