Siena, Amadori closes the production site: two hundred layoffs via email

Amadori has communicated its intention to cease operations at the Monteriggioni (Siena) production site. The move, anticipated via email, will result in the dismissal of 200 workers: from July everyone will be forced to stay at home.

Only 10% of those hired will benefit from social safety nets

Only for about twenty of them, with permanent contracts, there will be two years of social safety net.

“In any case, these are people of a complicated age from the point of view of job relocation”, underlined the unions. The rest of the employees in the company managed by the Avi company. Coop will have to start from scratch.

The useless negotiation (?) and the strike in Romagna

The workers’ first response is a strike with a garrison in Cesena, in front of the company’s headquarters, scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday 20 June.

In recent days, Amadori’s delegates left the bargaining table with a series of proposals in hand and a commitment to communicating the company’s decision. But according to the CGIL of Siena, in reality there has never been a real negotiation.

Turkey and chicken meat

“On Amadori’s part – explained the unions – the desire not to continue his commitment in the Tuscan plant clearly emerged The company’s advertisements talk about family and social commitment, but their only interest is economic: they had no problem firing hundreds of people.”

According to the company, the problem lies in turkey meat which has seen a drop in purchases. “We replied that chicken is also processed in that place and proposed a reconversion but it was all in vain”, revealed the social partners.

Changing the address of the factory on the other hand would not have been easy, because the property belongs to Amadori herself, so there would have had to be a sale or in any case a change of management. Nevertheless just a few months ago the scenario appeared completely different.

“There was talk of incentives and the possibility of hiring new staff, now all together the stop has arrived. Not to mention that they complained about sales, but in Cesena they produce turkey and are ready to increase staff”, the unions attack again.

Bipartisan solidarity with workers

Regret for what happened was expressed by all the institutions. In particular from the Tuscany Region.

“Closing a factory like the one in Monteriggioni will have negative repercussions on the agricultural activity of an important part of Tuscany”, said vice-president Stefania Saccardi”. Nicoletta Fabio, mayor of Siena, also spoke on the Amadori case. These are her words: « It is a decision that represents a break with the local institutions themselves.”
