Modena, an abandoned setter seized. The holder reported

“How many days has the dog eaten?” This is the question that the owner of an approximately two-year-old English setter seized by the animal guards of the International Animal Protection Organization (Oipa) of Modena was unable to answer. He was charged for abandonment, mistreatment and incompatible detention resulting in serious suffering.

Left abandoned in a sheet metal structure, he was without food and shelter, Ares, as his rescuers called him, forced to lie down on the ground strewn with his excrement. Around the box, the grass was high and not trampled, a sign that confirmed the fact that no one had taken care of the animal for a long time.

«Underweight, with prominent bones, dull fur and signs of prolonged detention, including poor mobility, Ares was infested with fleas, agitated and eager to go out», says the coordinator of the Oipa zoophile guards of Modena and its province, Sara Ferrarini. «He stood on two legs seeking physical contact, showing symptoms of prolonged isolation over time. Without even a health card, he was microchipped but the owner had never registered it in his name.”

Ares is now a guest at the Pavullo kennel where he awaits to be entrusted to a family who will want to take care of him and make him forget his dramatic past (for information: [email protected], tel. 3497706639).

Oipa invites you not to ignore cases of degradation and mistreatment of which you are aware and to always contact its zookeepers who, in full respect of privacy, can intervene to protect the animals.
