The man who the other night in Vittoria set fire to the house where his family lived and caused the death of his mother and sister will have to answer for multiple murder and attempted murder.

Yesterday evening, at 9.15 pm, staff from the Vittoria PS Police Station together with colleagues from the Ragusa Flying Squad, executed the arrest of a crime suspect issued yesterday by the Public Prosecutor’s Office at the Ragusa Court signed by the Deputy Public Prosecutor Dr. Martina Dall’Amico.

Wajdi Zaouali, a 31-year-old Tunisian resident in Vittoria in Piazza Unità D’Italia, currently subjected to the security measure of the Supervised Freedom for another reason, is held responsible for the crimes of “multiple murder and attempted murder”, because he sprinkled the room with flammable liquid from his parents’ bedroom, the corridor and the entrance of the house occupied by his father, mother and sisters he set fire to with a lighter.

The fire caused very serious burns to the occupants, resulting in the death of first the mother Mariem Sassi and then the sister Samah Zaouali.

The man then attempted to kill his father Kamel Zaouali and his sister Omaima, who, according to the reconstruction of the investigators, managed to save themselves only due to the intervention of their neighbors and the police.

Once the formalities have been completed, the man is now in the prison of Ragusa, at the disposal of the Judicial Authority.
