Sicily, ancient archaeological works discovered and seized

There Anti-Mafia Investigation Directorate, executed a seizure decree aimed at preventive confiscation issued by the Court of Trapani, concerning assets protected by historical, artistic and archaeological interest. In particular, it is about various amphorae from the period late Roman and a basement Of marble reproducing mythological scenes carved on all sides, aged Hellenistic-Romanall considered to be of great value, belonging to an international trafficker of works of art, already burdened by a confiscation order for numerous assets in his possession, as a subject suspected of belonging to Cosa Nostra and also in business with the mafia family from Castelvetrano (TP).

Numerous clues emerge regarding the recipient of the measure in question regarding his dangerousness, characterized by being a person who derives his livelihood from his own criminal and profit-making activity, international trafficker of archaeological finds.

Over the years the proposal had already been made accused to have provided multiple contributions to the functioning and strengthening of mafia association and, in this regard, the declarations of various collaborators of justice had been made.

The ablative measure, issued following a proposal jointly signed by the Director of DIA and of the Public Prosecutor of Palermo, follows the path traced by previous similar measures resulting from the detailed investigations assets carried out by the Operational Section of the Trapani Anti-Mafia Investigation Directoratewhich demonstrated the disproportion between the sources of income and the jobs of the family unit of the recipient of the measure.

These works of art will be entrusted for safekeeping to the Superintendency of Cultural and Environmental Heritage in order to make them accessible to the community again.
