Filippo Maria Bertoldi, from Assisi enrolled at the Properzio high school in Assisi, class 5A economic and social, is among the winners of the 12th edition of the national EconoMia competition, the awards ceremony for which was held in Turin as part of the International Festival of Economics this year on the theme “He who possesses knowledge.” For the 2024 edition, candidates who passed a first selective test were asked to simulate a debate, according to the Debate methodology, on generative artificial intelligence. “In the second test – explains Bertoldi – I compared the contrasting positions of supporters and detractors of generative AI regarding the diffusion of knowledge. I analyzed the advantages and risks of this technology with objectivity, simulating a debate between the proponents of one and of the other, then I expressed my opinion, remaining in balance between the two orientations. I indeed recognize the potential of generative AI, but I believe regulation is necessary. I also used a quote from the historian and philosopher Yuval Noah Harari to summarize mine thought: ‘For every dollar and every minute we invest in improving AI, it would be wise to invest a dollar and a minute in improving human consciousness.'” “It is a remarkable result, given that Filippo was selected among the small group of 20 young people awarded in an event that involved over 600 students from 106 Italian schools – says Francesca Alunni, head teacher of Properzio –. Well done to the other high school students who participated in the competition: Damiano Branda, David Dudu and Ana Qosja”. The contact person for the project is Professor Silvia Roscini, assisted by teachers Stefania Donati, Elisabetta Giammarioli and Roberta Tabarrini.
