“The recent statements by the workers’ representatives of the city’s public transport companies, from whatever point of view you read them, reflect an unacceptable condition, the result of the unfortunate decisions taken by the previous management of ATC. In past years we have repeatedly pointed out the inability of the latter, which has finally left the scene today, in being able to guarantee the provision of a quality service together with the construction of working environments that are at least acceptable for the staff”. This was stated in a note by the municipal councilor of the Democratic Party Marco Raffaelli, speaking on the difficult situation that the local public transport service is experiencing in the province of La Spezia.
“In the silence of Peracchini, who had appointed those same managers – because they were men he trusted – the problems regarding working conditions and the state of the service were hidden under the carpet. Today – continues Raffaelli – the chaos emerges in its entirety: a tender to subcontract 30% of the transport which is embarrassing and therefore suspended; conflicts between workers and the company resulting in appeals; insufficient staff to cover ordinary journeys which, consequently, are cancelled; citizens who remain at the stop waiting for a bus that will not pass. These are events whose responsibilities must be sought, first and foremost, in the centre-right in government of the city and the Province”.
“However, it is more urgent than ever to understand the intentions with which we want to face the next few months. For this reason we have requested, as a PD group, the urgent convocation of the competent council commission so as to listen to the representatives of the companies and all the workers who work on the service”, concludes Raffaelli.
