June 21st marks the beginning of COMPARISONS, the new summer event organized by the Circolo Arci Nuovi Orizzonti. This event, which will extend into the autumn, represents an important initiative aimed at promoting dialogue and mutual understanding through a series of meetings and cultural activities.
The meaning of comparison
According to the Treccani vocabulary, “comparison” means placing two people or things close together to evaluate similarities and differences, or even to compare different characteristics. In the political and social context, confrontation implies a dialogue between supporters of different ideas, aimed not at the victory of one party, but at the creation of an open and serene dialogue.
A calendar full of events
The program of COMPARISONS involves a series of “encounters-confrontations” which range between different languages and artistic genres. There will be book presentations, conferences and shows that will explore the similarities and differences between different styles, looking for points of meeting and divergence. The next few months will be characterized by numerous artistic “contaminations”. which will stimulate dialogue and mutual understanding.
Overcome the clash with comparison
We live in an era in which confrontation, often violent, seems to have become the prevalent mode of interaction, both in the real and virtual world. However, discussion represents the best way to bring distant ideological positions closer together and promote constructive dialogue. Each evening/event of COMPARISONS will be an opportunity to understand each other’s reasonscritically testing the beliefs of all participants and trying to reach a shared agreement or at least mutual respect.
The words of President Samantha Franz
Samanta Franz, President of the Club, explains the choice to pursue this theme with conviction: “We thank the Municipality of Udine for the support that allows us to give continuity to the summer event which this year is called COMPARISONS. We want to propose activities that, in addition to fun, encourage you to put yourself in other people’s shoes. We hope that these meetings will help us seek a healthy comparison with others, recognizing differences with curiosity and respect.”

The Councilor for Culture of the Municipality of Udine, Federico Pirone, underlines the importance of the work carried out by the Circolo Nuovi Orizzonti: “The Club does an enormous job to bring together, spread culture and support the territory. It will be four months full of events for all age groups. We, as the Municipal Administration, support and promote this project which aims at a civil and honest discussion.”
Scheduled events
The first date of COMPARISONS is set for June 21st and 28th with two concert-lessons entitled “BETWEEN MUSIC AND CINEMA”. Benedetto Parisi, director and musician, will illustrate how music contributes to cinematic narration, accompanied in the second evening by Enrico Baldini.
