The separation between the Messina and the coach Giacomo Modica it seemed like it was just around the corner and, instead, the turning point came in the afternoon with a last-minute meeting with the president Peter Silly.
Signing for the renewal and two-year contract for the coach who, having arrived last summer, will continue on the Giallorossi bench: “We needed to give some answers to the city, to the fans and to ourselves. It is important to understand everyone’s tomorrow. Being an employee of the company, it wasn’t me who had to call the company, we were a little slow also due to the priority for registration for the championship and the president’s health problem”, explained the coach who, despite the extension of the contract, added: “I will be the one to leave if things don’t go as we hope. It is a long-term project depending on how much can be spent.”
Another theme is that of structures, a key point for Modica: “On the training pitch we will see what will happen in Messina. There are possibilities in the province, Pace del Mela, Giammoro or Santa Lucia del Mela”.
On the sports director: “It doesn’t depend on me, I have great respect for Rome, it made me make peace with Sciotto after seven years of argument. He is a man I am very close to“, underlined the coach, who then also expressed his opinion on goals and players: “We want to improve what we did last year, with a championship with supersonic speed at the end. I can’t say we’ll go to Serie B but I hope we’ll be a fun team that will do better than last year. We would like to finish in the top ten, but only the field will provide the answers. The obligation is to rebuild a team, with four under for playing time. I will pay attention to those who gave us a great hand last year, they gave and received and will have an open door, but first we have to understand what we need. Now, however, we are waiting for the general and sporting director and we will understand, but everything must be done quickly because in a month, more or less, we will go into training camp.”
It will be a month of intense work for everyone: “We have to improve every aspect. Today my and the president’s will was to improve.
