Civic crowdfunding is back: 7 projects for Venice

The objective is to support the projects of third sector bodies and local associations through crowdfunding, a collective financing method that relies on online platforms in which the various initiatives are presented to citizens so that they can donate to contribute to their realization .

From mini documentaries to give voice to artisans, to comics that tell generation Z about ancient crafts; from activities aimed at combating isolation and loneliness, to projects aimed at breaking down the digital barriers of the elderly. These are some of the ideas behind the Municipality’s seven civic crowdfunding projects, which were selected this year to try to respond to some of the needs of the city and its inhabitants.
The mechanism is simple: the projects have been published on the Produzioni dal Basso platform and if by 15 July the fundraising, thanks to the citizens’ contribution, manages to cover at least 50% of the expected cost, then the Municipality will intervene by covering the remaining share , through a non-repayable payment equal to the remaining 50%. Each project therefore has forty-five days to collect at least 50% of the objective, during which presentation events will be organised.

The project “The future of Murano glass” was born from an idea of the Murano cultural recreational club and involves the creation – with the contribution of the “Abate Zanetti” Institute – of an interactive comic book, with QR code and links to learn more about the topics covered. And Abbot Vincenzo Zanetti, a historical figure of the island whose 200th anniversary this year marks his birth, was chosen for the role of guide in this extraordinary journey through the history of glass. “Who’s afraid of the wolf?”which took shape thanks to the Palazzetto Bru Zane Foundation, aims to introduce primary school children to classical music, telling some famous stories and “The artisans of the district” – the “Maker mile” association launched this fundraiser – its objective is to give voice and value to the world of artisans through the creation of a series of mini documentaries that tell the story of the crafts and document the techniques used. It’s still, “Take it for yourself” was born from the desire to connect different local associations to achieve true community integration: the protagonists of the scheduled day will be the AIPD kids, who will have the task of giving life to workshops and moments of meeting and discussion for the citizens . “Quicksilver”, supported by the Club Delfino Asd, starts from the awareness that the presence of a high number of elderly citizens in the city generates the need for services designed to improve their quality of life; the project aims to combat loneliness by offering social, motor and cognitive activities. The “Di casa” association presents one – “Know and live your city” – designed to involve people in difficulty, such as the homeless and migrants, by bringing them together and offering them the opportunity to delve deeper into the beauty of the area, including visits to Venice, convivial lunches in which to share stories and traditions of their country of origin , and shows. In the end “It’s never too late”, the project launched by the volunteers of the “Pax tibi” association to support those who find themselves having to face daily challenges related to technology, especially in the fields of health and administration. All to break down digital barriers
In the two-year period 2021-2022, 18 projects out of 22 achieved the objective and obtained co-financing for a total, in the 2021 edition, of over 37 thousand euros donated by 474 citizens and just under 52 thousand, thanks to 690 people, in that of the following year.
