Stellantis: mass recall of Citroen due to airbag problems

That Stellantis called back 530,000 Citroen C3 And DS3 due to a very serious problem with his airbags developed by the company Takata it has been said and said many times. These airbags could explode while driving, leading the group to implement a massive recall action.

According to what was reported by French television, the recalls are not proceeding right pace and with the speed that a problem of this magnitude would require. At the moment, in fact, they have only been repaired 50,000 Citroenless than 10%. While this represents a good start, it is clear that it will still take months to completely resolve the situation, given the large amount of vehicles involved.

Not only Citroen C3s have airbag problems

Stellantis has arranged 25,000 cars replacements for owners of the recalled vehicles, but this may not be enough considering the total number of vehicles to be repaired. The owners were also advised to absolutely do not drive the affected cars until they are repaired. But how do they get around? Unfortunately it looks like the recall may soon be extended to others with a Takata airbag, including other Citroen models such as the C4. On these models, the problem would be less serious and lo “stop driving”

it would only be recommended and not mandatory.

The problem of defective airbags involves a total of approx 8 million cars. Of these, 6 million vehicles are Opel and 2.3 million are Citroen and DS. Just considering France, they are 1.4 million cars Stellantis recalled, an action of a scale never seen before which for obvious reasons will require a lot of time as well as large economic resources.

The massive appeal of Stellantis to resolve Takata’s faulty airbag issue represents one of its largest recall campaigns in recent history. The logistical and economic challenge linked to Citroens is considerable and will take months to be completed and it only gets worse. In the meantime, driver safety remains the priority, with emergency measures such as replacement cars and “stop driving” advice. Stellantis tries its best to monitor the situation and ensure the safety of its customers.
