An extraordinary event occurred on a coast north of Crotone: 5 nests of Kentish plovers (Charadrius alexandrinus), migratory birds at risk of extinction, were identified. Precisely in these days we witness the magical moment of egg hatching.
The Circolo Ibis per l’Ambiente Odv of Crotone, with the precious support of the Port Authority, the Police Force and the Municipal Administration, has monitored the nests with dedication since last April. Thanks to the protection measures implemented on the proposal of the Environment Councilor, it was possible to guarantee the tranquility necessary for nesting.
This find is not only exceptional, but also represents a clear sign of health for the local environment. The plover, a protected and threatened species, testifies to the quality and vitality of the surrounding ecosystem.
Furthermore, the presence of these specimens could be decisive in nominating the beach on the coast north of Crotone for the prestigious recognition of the Blue Flag, an international symbol of excellence for the sustainable management of beaches and the quality of bathing water.
It is crucial that institutions continue to promote sustainable practices and protect nature, thus ensuring a better future for present and future generations.
The Circolo Ibis per l’Ambiente confirms itself as an irreplaceable partner in the defense of biodiversity and the marine ecosystem, deserving the applause and support of the entire community. We hope that similar initiatives can be replicated along our precious coasts, to preserve the beauty and richness of our land.
