Application submitted

The application for participation in the tender with presentation of the project was officially forwarded on Monday 10 June 2024 to AICS and the results could be published for the month of December 2024.

“The project – states the Councilor for Budget and PNRR Egidio Longoni – demonstrates how intercepting national and European funds can not only bring innovation to the city, but also allow us to go beyond the city borders and bring the good practices of Monza and the knowledge of our technicians on the international scene, collaborating with partners who are geographically distant but with whom, in the spirit of exchange of ideas and collaboration, it is possible to achieve great goals”.

Project numbers and objectives

With a duration of 36 months and a total value of €2,106,000 of which €106,000 co-financed by the Municipality of Monza, the project aims to contribute to improving health, quality of life and sustainable development in the county of Nairobi – the capital of Kenya which has more than 4 million inhabitants – through universal and equitable access to safe drinking water and sewage services. As requested by the tender, the aim is closely connected to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda, which aim to achieve adequate health and hygiene standards by the end of the decade – starting from access for all to sewerage and drinking water – but also sustainable agricultural practices, closely linked to an efficient use of natural resources.

More specifically, the project envisages support actions aimed at the local community of Kasarani – the second most populous sub-county of the Kenyan capital which has 55,417 inhabitants – improving the quality of the treated waste water also for safe reuse at the local food level and guaranteeing training and support in the management and maintenance of rehabilitated infrastructures.

Actions on the field

In addition to strengthening the drinking water distribution network and developing the sewerage network, the objectives of the project include the elimination of illegal connections and the reduction of commercial losses of the NCWSC company, 100% owned by the local government of Nairobi, resulting in an increase in the efficiency of the water and sanitation services provided. The project also aims to provide more specialized and professional knowledge to technical officials in Nairobi; increase female employment through the care of new urban gardens; involve citizens in training initiatives and, finally, to finance social policies in favor of the most disadvantaged classes and environmental sustainability policies with 15% of the revenues deriving from the bills relating to the new plants built.
