A few months ago the Councilor for Culture of Ancona had said that there would be no summer season at the Mole Vanvitelliana and, in particular, that the Lazzabaretto would be postponed by a year because there were works.
This made the news and the administration had to backtrack. Have you decided to speed up work on the small bridge that connects the Mole and Lazzabaretto to the mainland to have it ready this summer? No. It’s too complicated to even think about it. However, he decided to suspend them, asking the company to dismantle the construction site and return in a few months.
From that moment, at least for the summer of 2024, many have breathed a sigh of relief. Because the Lazzabaretto, it is worth remembering, is not a venue, but is a project presented following a tender by the Municipality from the Third Sector which includes open-air cinema, musical and cultural events, a network of associations, festivals, all supported economically (also) by administration revenues. In short, a civil project that has entered the hearts of the people of Ancona over the years.
So is the Lazzabaretto opening today, June 13th? Apparently not. Because the construction site has not yet been dismantled. Well yes: not only did the Municipality not think of accelerating the works in the spring instead of suspending them in the summer, but it was not even able to move some boulders and some nets to respect the times it had assured the organizers. June 13th exactly. Everything is postponed by a week.
Someone will say “what do you want it to be” a week. But that’s not the point (and let’s hope it’s really just a week). The point is the organizational sloppiness of a public body in all the things it does, which is confirmed in both large and small ones, and above all in those with which the administrators evidently don’t have a great feeling. For example, for the councilor for culture, in the cultural ones.
The point is that while projects are announced for entrepreneurial and youth start-ups that have already existed for years, there is no concern whatsoever about keeping their word regarding a public place where young people meet.
The point is that while we claim to be finally precise and attentive to the organization of things, we can’t even move a few boulders from here to there. And we always make the same impression, always the same: when the roads are asphalted on the wrong side, when a museum closes because those who work there have been sent home, when the money of Ancona football is budgeted on the basis of a chat… and even when you can’t remove a little construction site to keep your word. Always the same figure.
Ancona Futura is worried about this widespread disinterest in sociality, culture, the young generations who want to spend time in a place that is public, let’s remember this, and which as public must be guaranteed by the Municipality.
