(LaPresse) The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, is in Brindisi together with the Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, for the ceremony for the 30th anniversary of the United Nations Global Service Centre, the structure from which the entire logistics of UN peacekeeping operations depend on it. In addition to logistical support functions, the Global Service Center in Brindisi hosts the storage of materials necessary for the rapid deployment of new missions on the ground and provides geospatial, IT and telecommunications services to field operations. “For us, the ‘Food for Gaza’ initiative is very important, which we organized with FAO, the World Food Programme, the Red Cross and the Russian Crescent but also with the approval and support of the government of Israel and the Palestinian National Authority. It is a true humanitarian project”, underlined the FI leader. “The planes will depart from here – explained Tajani – while the ships that will go to Cyprus and then reach Gaza through the humanitarian corridor will be from Gioia Tauro. We are collecting food but also sanitary and hygienic material, there will also be many tents and a tent for a advanced field hospital offered by the Italian Red Cross”.
