The tradition of the Bread of Saint Anthony originates in the miracle of little Tommasino, who was healed precisely through the intercession of the Saint. The child’s young mother, to show her gratitude, then decided to offer as much bread to the convent as her child weighed.
Early this morning there was a coming and going of people from the Church of Saint Anthony of Padua with bread bags, to be blessed. An inflorescence of white lilies was placed at the foot of the statue of the miracle saint, with many faithful taking part in the Eucharistic celebrations presided over by several priests during the morning.
At the church led by the parish priest Don Vito Spagnuolothis morning a lot of faith and devotion with the traditional blessing of the bread of Sant ‘Antonio, to take home, and to donate to the most needy people, sharing a piece with the loneliest people, who were unable to go to the parish. A tribute to the saint of miracles, therefore, with a community gesture. There are many parishioners who in these days of Thirteenintact, are in fact providing a reception service, and today the distribution of bread.
In the days leading up to the feast of June 13ththe statue of the Saint is displayed in the nave, in front of the altar, with the decoration of lilies in honor of the saint. Every year, as per tradition, on the day of Saint Anthony the lilies are blessed, symbol of the shining virtues of the Holy Wonderworker, while the relic of the Saint is exposed for devotion. This afternoon at 5.00 pm the blessing of the children dressed in the saint’s habit and of the waiting women. At 7.00 pm, however, the Holy Mass presided over by the Archbishop of Crotone-Santa Severina Angelo Raffaele Panzetta.
