LIVORNO. Mayor Luca Salvetti he repeated it immediately after the election: “It took me eight days to appoint the council five years ago, this time I would like to do better.” And in fact between now and next week one meeting after another is marked on the agendas of the protagonists of the victory. At the center of the discussions is the creation of the government team. “Compared to the first mandate, two or three councilors will change, no more”, Salvetti repeats to everyone. Almost certainly among those who will leave is Gianfranco Simoncini who already at the end of his mandate had made himself available to take a step back. He will lack skills, analytical ability and experience. Among the names in pole position to join the council is the municipal secretary of the Democratic Party Federico Mirabelli. In the interview that we publish on this same page, the person concerned repeats that “it is up to the mayor to decide”. But if his entry was already almost certain before the vote, after the result of the Dems at the polls, it seems obvious. The government team for the next five years will (almost) certainly include Andrea Raspanti, who deserves credit for having done a lot for the housing emergency by resolving the many occupations of previous years without shocks, and Simone Lenzi, a reference figure in the world cultural figure from Livorno, «an intellectual lent to politics», say his supporters, who with his list “The protagonists of the city” came close to 5%.
However, the position of Rocco Garufo and Barbara Bonciani remains to be clarified and could leave room for others. Also because something could move between Reformists for the Future and the Green Left Alliance.
But in the game concerning the council there is also that for the role of president of the city council and group leader of the Democratic Party, the party which will also be the majority shareholder of the Salvetti government in this legislature. Among the hypotheses, centre-left radio accredits two that have a certain charm. The first concerns the presidency of the council which could pass from the Democratic Party to Livorno Civica which obtained over 8.3% of the votes. In that case, given that Raspanti would remain on the council, Giovanna Cepparello could take on the role of guarantor that for five years was in the hands of Pietro Caruso.
Caruso himself could be chosen as group leader (he already did so when the Democratic Party was in opposition). The alternatives could be Piero Tomei, Valerio Ferretti. But also Irene Sassetti if you had to choose a young woman.
