Texts-Gorky; Rondinella-Crocetta; Lincoln and Bettola, where there will be the interchange with the extension of the M1. This is the entirely underground route that will take the subway into the heart of the area. “Here we are – the words of mayor Giacomo Ghilardi -. Now it is necessary to adapt the PGT by untying the bureaucratic knots and the points unresolved by previous administrations, resolving the critical issues that this impressive work can bring to the territory. A set of synergistic actions so that the construction has a positive impact for the city. A further step towards what will be one of the most strategically significant interventions for Cinisello Balsamo. The awareness of the importance of the arrival of the M5 in our territory has allowed us to achieve the objectives we had set ourselves since our first settlement: the improvements made to the project will give a new impetus to the city”»

«The metro arrives at the centre, simultaneously balancing and serving the productive and residential parts of the territory – added the councilor for the local government Fabrizia Berneschi -. The Lincoln stop, introduced in the project variant, will be a real ‘urban door’ giving accessibility and making our territory accessible to local users as a supra-municipal one. The shared improvements are indispensable elements that allow Cinisello Balsamo not to be a municipality of crossing and connection but a real strategic point, a fundamental stage of the journey”.

The Democratic Party voted in favor of the act in the city council, but while maintaining some reservations: «It is a project that comes from afar – says PD group leader Marco Tarantola – and which saw a decisive boost in 2016 when, within the ‘Pact for Milan’, the centre-left government financed the planning of the extension of the M5 metro line in Monza with 16 million euros”. Adds PD councilor Maria Rita Morabito: «It is a strategic work with an estimated cost of around 1 billion and 265 million euros which will be covered mostly by state funds. Our Municipality will have to take out a mortgage to contribute around 13 million euros because the Ghilardi administration has failed to valorise the huge works needed for the extension and this is a big political and strategic mistake that will weigh on the pockets of the Cinisellesi”.

Tarantola and Morabito conclude: «Despite the promises of the mayor and his administrations, in the definitive project, however, after 5 years there is still no provision for the unraveling of the line at Bignami which in the future will be able to connect the neighborhoods to the north of the city, the arrangement of the Ferri intersection -Partisans and a serious development project for the Peano area which risks becoming a deadly traffic attractor. Such a large and important work cannot be blocked due to the shortcomings of an administration that does not follow the projects and does not keep its promises.”
