It was 1954 when Secondo Casadei, later renamed as the Strauss of Romagna, published what was destined to become the true anthem of a land, from which impossible to stay away. Seventy years later the notes of that song, ‘Romagna Mia’, still resonate, stronger than before, crossing generations and borders, even to the point of becoming the symbol of the fortitude of a people capable of getting up and facing even the toughest difficulties without losing your smile.

To celebrate the birthday of My Romagna and to pay homage to a musical genre and a dance that is the history, present and future of the culture of this land, Rimini launches the first edition of the Smooth Street Parade: appointment on Friday 14 June when Piazzale Kennedy will be transformed into an unprecedented dance hall welcoming 70 couples of dancers on its suggestive ‘dance’ just a stone’s throw from the sea, for a marathon that will start in the late afternoon and continue until midnight. The initiative was born from an idea by Giordano Sangiorgi del Mei – Meeting of Independent Labels and from the school The Dancing Sirens by Mirko and Sandra Ermeti in collaboration with the Municipality of Rimini and is one of the numerous initiatives scheduled for the summer designed not only to pay due homage to Secondo Casadei’s song, but also to enhance music and dance that are a popular tradition and community, despite its various facets and differences. Elements that pushed the Emilia Romagna Region, with the immediate sharing of many institutional and non-local subjects, to start the path towards the recognition of smooth as an intangible heritage of humanity protected by UNESCO.

The Liscio Street Parade – a preview of the long weekend of the Notte Rosa Weekend dance from 5 to 7 July – will therefore see 70 pairs of dancers from the best dance schools in Romagna who will liven up the Belvedere in Piazzale Kennedy to the rhythm of the music of Moreno il Biondo & the Grande Eventom Orchestra which will act as the resident orchestra, and the new Santa Balera orchestra, an orchestra of very young ballroom dancers, guests last February at the Ariston Theater during the Sanremo Festival, which will open the evening of music and dance at 8pm.

Among the guests are Generation Z of Liscio with Margherita and Beniamino of Fratelli & Margherita, Cristian Albani & Alessia Dalcielo, the rapper Word together with the leader of the Allluvionati of Liscio Alvio Focaccia who will present the Team Gresini anthem Dai Dai Gresini which he made the world tour together with the clarinetist Fabrizio Cimatti and many others. The opening, starting from 6 pm, and the closing of the evening until midnight, is entrusted to DJs from Smooth electronic and rap with DJ Max Monti and DJ Women with Anymablue and many other DJs who will remix Romagna Mia and the historical songs of smooth music according to a new disc brake model.
