An important step forward was made with the opening of the district gym in via Ugo La Malfa. In fact, in recent days, a services conference was held, convened by the Technical Office of the Municipality of Agrigento, with the object of verifying the conformity of the documentation produced and the completion works carried out, preparatory to the release of the Scia and the definitive opening of the structure.
«We considered it important – say councilors Principato and Piparo – to bring together the conference directly in the multipurpose structure, verifying on site, with papers in hand, the functionality and compliance with the legal requirements and regulations in force, of what has already been achieved and what has been carried out since 2021. , starting from the placement of sports furniture elements (seats for bleachers), the correct positioning and installation of the pitch edge barrier and the delimitation of the stands, the creation, in sensitive points and/or exposed to intrusion, of panels prefabricated metal modular structures of the galvanized type, the placement of business gates and n. 2 anti-intrusion doors on the north side, the creation of safety devices and the video surveillance system, escape routes, ramps and fire-fighting devices, reviewed and updated to the new legislation, as well as the verification of the minimum measures imposed by CONI , in case of authorizations for competitive events and competitions. What was proposed and verified, at the end of the works, also by the members of the entertainment commission, made it possible to obtain the fire SCIA and therefore the certification of the suitability and usability of the structure”.
During the services conference, the possibility of using the district gym structure for competitive sports with the presence of the public (1,400 seats) and also for cultural or entertainment events was also discussed.
«From unfinished to excellence of the municipal sports facilities – say the two councilors -. Finally the district gym is a reality, after 45 years, with the declaration of usability, we can hand over the keys to the structure, definitively removing the label of “eternal unfinished”. The work carried out by councilor Alfano, present at the services conference, was valuable and detailed, with whom the future management of the facility, the traffic plan and escape routes were also discussed, necessary elements to be provided to the members of the public entertainment commission on the occasion of specific events. We are finally ready for the inauguration. We inherited – conclude Principato and Piparo – a tested construction site but not ready for opening, which required further important works and adjustments. Looking at the now finished gym, the notable effort of the current Administration to unblock the situation and resolve an affair that appeared anything but obvious is evident.”
