The former general will retain his seat at Palazzo del Pincio, at least for the moment. No relation to Grasso

CIVITAVECCHIA – Nothing but resignation in case of defeat. The former general of the Financial Police Paolo Poletti will (rightly) remain in his post as career soldiers know how to do. He was elected and will act as an opposition councilor.

«As a citizen, I will hardly take an official position in view of the ballot – explained Poletti speaking on a television program – in the next few days I will meet the representatives of the various lists who supported my candidacy: they will decide together on the best, they will carefully evaluate and decide what they think it is useful for them and for the city.”

«On a personal level, I am satisfied. We presented ourselves with a new list, which had a good result, as did Forza Italia and Noi moderates – he added – of course, I am disappointed, because I had a program that I believed in a lot and I hoped to be able to achieve it. It’s a shame that the votes from the European elections, as we saw with the list linked to Italia Viva, did not transfer to the municipal elections. The voters have decided this way, we take note of it, and we wish both mayoral candidates well; on the one hand the novelty, albeit in continuity, of Massimiliano Grasso, on the other the new proposal of a left that has not been in the city government for many years now. I – concluded Poletti – remain available to the city, where it may be useful, in the Council not to annoy, but to make a contribution”.

This means that Forza Italia will remain with only one municipal councilor with the result that while it grew in Civitavecchia throughout Italy it has practically disappeared despite the personal success of some candidates’ preferences.

Meanwhile, after the failed experiments of the wide field throughout Italy, Civitavecchia proposes it again with the M5S which proposes to form an alliance with Piendibene to increase its delegation to the Pincio even in the event of defeat, these are the declarations of Enzo D’Antò: «Civitavecchia is going through a difficult historical moment and, more than ever, would it have needed a strong and cohesive administration like ours, capable of guiding the city with a serious and detailed project”.

«We worked hard – they continue -, listening and studying thoroughly, to propose a vision that could really make a difference. Thousands of people have placed their trust in this project, but unfortunately not enough to allow us to take the helm of this wonderful city. Those who supported us did so because they believe in us, in our ideas and in our determination.

Out of respect for these citizens, we cannot give up now. We cannot accept that the city is handed over for another five years to those who have demonstrated that they are not up to the task, that they put personal interests above those of the community, that they have no qualms about exploiting the difficulties of families and the precariousness of workers to get a few more votes. We cannot leave the city in the hands of people like Grasso, who has always (just remember the ecoballe or biodigester affair), and even more so during the electoral campaign, demonstrated that he is unable to think about the common good, always putting the interests of starts and loses pieces in record time.

At this critical moment, we believe it is our duty to make a further effort, putting aside what divides to look at what we have in common. For this reason, in this phase of the ballot, we believe we must work to eliminate the differences that divide us from the center left and create a common front against this right which risks doing irreversible damage to our territory.

We therefore make ourselves available, with our compact coalition, to a formal comparison based on points that can guide us in giving a perspective to Civitavecchia, in resolving the urgent critical issues that our city is experiencing and allow us to put in place training capable to gather the consensus necessary to win this ballot.

We will not be able to protest or demonstrate against injustices in the future, knowing that we had the chance to avoid them and did not at least try. This – they conclude – would be truly inconsistent. Only in this way can we make a difference and build a better future for Civitavecchia right away. In five years it will be too late.”
