Everything is ready for the eighth edition of the international literary review “Velletri Libris”, organized by Mondadori Bookstore Velletri-Lariano-Genzano-Frascati-Cisterna and from De Cultura Foundationscheduled for summer 2024 at the Cloister of the House of Music Cultures Velletri. A rich, complete and exciting program that from June 19th to September 8th will offer readers interesting encounters under the stars in contact with books. There are many dates on the calendar, which include all literary genres for various target readers, in evenings which will, as always, be preceded by free food and wine tastings organized by Casale della Regina and with wines selected by CREA Viticoltura-Enologia.
The inauguration is scheduled for Wednesday 19 June with Gianluca Gottowhich will present “When happiness begins” (Mondadori), a novel that investigates questions, births and rebirths. Thursday 26 June great evening with the five finalists of the Strega Prize, for an unmissable event which will also represent the last public meeting of male and female writers before the official proclamation of the winning book of the most coveted Italian literary prize, scheduled for 4 July. In the final (six works selected) are Donatella Di Pietrantonio, Dario Voltolini, Chiara Valerio, Paolo Di Paolo, Raffaella Romagnolo and Tommaso Giartosio. Friday 28 JuneInstead, Lorenzo Marone in a “semi-serious monologue of an unprepared fifty-year-old” he will talk – together with Davide D’Alò – about “Generation X”.
The month of July will open on Tuesday 2nd with an international guest, Björn Larsson. The author of the famous “The true story of the pirate Long John Silver” arrives with his latest book, “To be or not to be human” (Raffaello Cortina Editore). Thursday 4 with Vinicio Marchioniactor and writer fresh from the success of “There’s Still Tomorrow”, and his debut novel “Three Nights” published by Rizzoli. Saturday 13 July the poet and writer Maria Grazia Calandrone will return to “Velletri Libris”, after having been a guest last season as a finalist of the Premio Strega, to present “Magnifico e tremendo sta l’amore” (Einaudi). Sunday 21 July another welcome return to the Castles: Paolo Mieli, journalist, writer and essayist will talk about “The authoritarian century. Because the good guys never win” (Rizzoli), a research spanning the twentieth century and today. Tuesday 23 July it will be the turn of Ascanio Celestiniprotagonist of the Italian narrative theatre: “Stories of a war idiot” (Einaudi) is a surprising and intense work, to be experienced together with its author. Friday 26 Julyfor the last of an intense month, Matteo Paolillo – actor, singer and writer as well as protagonist of the series “Mare Fuori” – will present his first novel “2045” (Solferino).
The month of August will open with a meeting that promises to be exciting: Thursday 8th Siegfried Ranuccihost of “Report”, arrives in Velletri with “The Choice” (Bompiani), a research on freedom of information and the role of journalism in the contemporary world.
After the mid-August break, the calendar starts again Thursday 5 September with Benedetta Tobagi, author of “The massacres are all a mystery” (Laterza), an essay on the half-truths that overshadow Italian history. The grand finale is Sunday 8 September with Roby Facchinettivoice of Pooh and keyboardist of the historic group, who will arrive in Velletri with his “What a spectacle is life”, an autobiographical volume published by Sperlink&Kupfer.
All evenings are free admission. At 8pm it will be possible to access the House of Cultures and Music, with food and wine tastings in the garden and the presentation of the guest cellar by Massimo Morassut. At 8.45pm “Small prologue in verse”, edited by Claudio Leoni And Giulio Mazzali, poetic introduction to the evening. The meetings with the authors will begin at 9pm, at the end of which there will be signing of copies with souvenir photos taken by Artemisia Moletta and downloadable for free from velletrilibris.it and from the social pages in the days following the event.
