TERAMO. The full professor of business economics Christian Corsi he is the new rector of the University of Teramo, the first from Teramo to hold this role, the youngest at 48 years old in the history of the university and among the Italian public universities. It happens at Dino Mastrocola. Corsi prevailed, with 239 preferences, over his rival, a professor of administrative law and former general director Salvatore Cimini who obtained 232 votes in a heart-pounding vote that saw the two challengers go head-to-head yesterday late afternoon in the packed thesis room of the Faculty of Law.
In a situation of almost a tie, with 122 votes for Corsi out of 121 for Cimini expressed by the teaching staff, there was an advantage for Cimini over the votes of the technical-administrative and library staff and the final sprint of Corsi which received the greatest preferences of the students, then the victory in thunderous applause followed by the handshake of Cimini who complimented Corsi. Of the 533 eligible voters, 92.5% voted, 492 voters with ten void ballots and eleven blank ballots. The newly elected rector dedicated his victory to the students. «I dedicate the result to the students who have always been close to me, who have shown me the right path to follow and will do so again in these six years», he said emotionally. Corsi who is a true Teramo is “at home” in the university where, in addition to carrying out the role of teacher in the Department of Communication Sciences of which he was dean and director, he was also vice-rector in entry orientation, placement, student welfare and he is coordinator of the PhD in Economic and social sciences.
His proclamation will take place within seven working days of the closing of the polling station, he will take office on November 1st succeeding the outgoing rector Mastrocola with whom he will spend months together to pass the baton and will remain in office for six years, until 2030 Its objectives are to make the University of Teramo «modern, innovative, respectful of diversity and talent and with a renewal process to which I will dedicate my best energies and great sense of responsibility, in synergy with the territory and with my city that I love and where I trained and giving students concrete opportunities like I had” he explained. Referring to the electoral programme, the new rector reiterated that «the teaching community will be put at the center and will work together and compactly to develop a project of renewal and development and with the students as protagonists of this project they will give attention to training the citizens of tomorrow» . Already with his mind in his new role he commented: «From tomorrow morning (this morning ndc) straight away to work for the team that will support me.” The challenger Cimini commented: «It was an interesting electoral campaign which allowed me to listen to all the members of the academic community and to delve deeper into the problems. For my part, there is a commitment not to split the university: congratulations to the new rector.” The outgoing rector Mastrocola greeted Corsi and Cimini as soon as the vote was concluded and said: «It was a very important moment of democracy that is repeated every six years, good job to the new rector». Finally, the rector emeritus and regional councilors were also present Luciano D’Amico who concluded: «I am very happy for the university, first of all because in Professor Corsi it will find an authoritative and capable guide and because Professor Corsi deserves to take on the role of rector».
