Third Wednesday in a row of the demonstration in Piazza Matteotti in Imola with the collection of signatures to ask for an end to the genocide in Gaza, a ceasefire and a just peace. Organized by the Donna Vita Libertà Collective, it sees the participation and taking turns at the “free” microphone of many very young people who speak out against the massacres and what is happening in Gaza. «Free Palestine» and «Ceasefire» posters written with paints and brushes.

This time, however, there was also a boy with an Israeli flag on which a swastika had been drawn. Mayor Marco Panieri waited his turn at the microphone and then took the floor and gave the boy a Peace flag to replace the other one.

«We are for free Palestine and for Peace first of all – explained Panieri -, but that flag (with the swastika) cannot be in this square in front of that plaque». The reference is to the plaque commemorating the Gold Medal for military valor awarded to the City of Imola for its participation in the partisan struggle during the Resistance against Nazi-fascism.

«Memory and culture are the strongest weapons we have. We are there but clear messages must be given: the flag is that of Peace.”
