TREVISO – A final farewell to Giulia Mauri, the 38-year-old who was hit by a van on her bicycle in Viale della Repubblica on 3 June and thrown into the Botteniga, will be celebrated on Friday afternoon at 3.45pm in the parish church of the Sacred Heart. This morning, in fact, the Prosecutor’s Office issued the authorization for the burial after the results of the autopsy carried out by the anatomopathologist Alberto Furlanetto arrived on the public prosecutor’s table: the employee died from the multiple traumas reported in the crash.

THE INVESTIGATIONS

Meanwhile, the investigations continue. The Prosecutor’s Office has given a mandate to analyze the seized phone of the 22-year-old who was driving the van. The suspicion is that the skid of the vehicle was caused by the young man’s distraction due to the use of his cell phone. We will have to wait a few more weeks for the results of the assessment. Just as there is a wait for the results of the toxicological tests on the 22-year-old: if he were under the influence of alcohol or drugs he would be charged with aggravated vehicular homicide. Another missing detail is the exact speed at which he was travelling, even if from the first findings it was not high: to consider whether he was respecting the limit of 50 kilometers per hour.

THE DYNAMICS

Giulia Mauri, who leaves her boyfriend Matteo (with whom she had just bought a house), father Renato and mother Paola, had forgotten the house keys in the office on 3 June, had gone back and then taken the road again to go to her parents, in via Santa Bona Vecchia. But this snag proved fatal for the 38-year-old. At the entrance to the bridge over the Botteniga, less than 50 meters from the traffic light at the intersection between Viale Luzzatti and Via Santa Bona Vecchia, she was hit by the van of the Site company. The impact was extremely violent: the vehicle, without slowing down, hit Giulia squarely, sending her flying into the Botteniga and then hit the guardrail, ending up in the water as well. While the 22-year-old, although in shock, got out of the van on his own two feet, for Giulia the situation immediately seemed desperate. Despite a lengthy surgery, the 38-year-old passed away the next morning.
