Papilloma virus alarm among young people: vaccines and pap tests for girls in Piacenza

After the success of the first edition it returns Wednesday 19 Junewith the possibility of repeating on the 26th of the same month, the open day dedicated to female prevention against the Papilloma virus, also known as HPV, organized by Hygiene and Public Health, Family Counseling Centers of the Local Health Authority and Epidemiology and screening centre.

During the day, the HPV vaccination and Pap test to girls born in 1999 and 1998 who have never undergone any vaccination dose and have never received any invitation to screening. Access will be managed by sending text messages which will be sent directly to the interested target in the coming weeks. To facilitate access, vaccinations and Pap tests will take place at the family clinic in Piazzale Milano.

the first weapon against the disease is prevention

“HPV is present in 99.7% of invasive cancerous pathologies of the cervix – he underlines Silvia Corini, director of family clinics – This is why primary prevention with the vaccine and constant monitoring with screening are fundamental. The program is free, guarantees continuity and quality of the diagnosis and treatment process, and if necessary, access to services occurs automatically. A handful of minutes can save our lives. This is why we invite all women of suitable age to get vaccinated and to respond actively to screening calls.”

“The first weapon against the disease is prevention – he underlines Alessandra Rampini, director of Hygiene and Public Health – in this case the vaccine, which can prevent approximately 90% of all HPV-related cancers and 80% of precancerous lesions. A very high percentage of protection which must be accompanied by the constant monitoring guaranteed by screening. The Ministry of Health recommends preventive vaccination for girls and boys aged 12 as there is better efficacy in the population who has not yet begun sexual activity and a better immune response to the vaccine; vaccination is also offered to unvaccinated women upon their 25th birthday. As regards secondary prevention, early identification of lesions or infection is carried out through active call screening. Vaccination has proven to be safe and very effective, so much so that the presence of two doses of vaccine before the age of 15 has led to a different screening method, moving from the Pap test at 25 years of age (search for already modified cells) to the HPV test at 30 years for those vaccinated (DNA research of viruses at high risk of developing cancer)”.
