Bomb alert on the Frecciarossa, train stopped in Santa Maria Novella

Florence, 12 June 2024 – Bomb alert on a Frecciarossa train arrived in the early afternoon at the Santa Maria Novella station in Florence. The police intervened to verify the validity of the alert. The vehicle remained stopped on the track. Based on what we learned, it would be the train FR 9540 Naples Central (12.40) – Milan Central (17.55).

Rail traffic was inevitably affected. Several trains were delayed for several minutes. The high speed trains have been routed on the alternative route and they were diverted to Florence Rifredi instead of allowed to enter Florence Santa Maria Novella.

The alarm would go off from suspicious baggage. Some tracks near the train to the Lombardy capital were closed to traffic while the passengers of the convoy were made to get off with their luggage. Checks with police canine units on board the train. The bomb squad and the Polfer were also on site. From what we have learned, the anonymous report would have arrived with an email to FS. The alarm went off just before 4pm. The passenger service is carried out in the Florence Rifredi/Firenze Campo Marte stations.

To the people stuck on trains, Trenitalia forwarded the following message:
