Frost. An elderly couple who are victims of the fake police marshal’s scam. A scam that was also perpetrated in other Sicilian cities (in the Agrigento area in particular) and which in recent days was carried out against an 88-year-old pensioner.
The technique used is always the same, confirming that it is a modus operandi of criminals specialized in this type of scam.
After discovering the elderly man’s mobile phone, they tracked him down by phone. The scammer, with a Neapolitan accent, introduced himself as a police marshal. “Your son hit a 77 year old woman and is now in prison for vehicular homicide – she told him on the phone – her daughter-in-law is also injured and is in hospital. If you want to avoid a complaint or your son’s jail time must hand over 9000 euros in bail”.
The pensioner, panicked, hung up and tried to contact his other son, a doctor, who unfortunately had his cell phone unreachable. The fake policeman called back and to make sure he didn’t call anyone else he also asked him if he had another phone at home. Another accomplice then kept the second cell phone busy while the threats continued. “If the woman dies her son will remain in prison“, He insisted. When the pensioner, in a panic, said he had no money at home, plan b was triggered. “A lawyer is passing by, give him what he has at home, we’ll take care of it”. And so he did, handing over to a mysterious black lawyer all the family jewels that he kept at home.
