The problem is not new. Every time bad weather hits Legnano with particular violence, it is too often the tenants who suffer the consequences Aler houses where water passes through roofs and ceilings due to poor maintenance of buildings. On the evening of June 11th the Fire Brigade intervened at number 24 in via Montenevoso (see video) in Legnano where the rain poured heavily into the house.
In March 2023, a crack appeared on the roof of these buildings and the tenants had to be evacuated. The technicians had intervened to make it safe and to check the entire housing complex. Residents had, once again, reported a problem of poor maintenance.
A year has passed and the same tenants were at the first big hailstorm forced to take out buckets and basins to collect rainwater: «We are exasperated, so we can’t move forward», the residents waiting for the technicians were complaining already in the morning (June 12). The Aler managers arrived on site around 9.30am and from an initial check they found no problems with the roof: the leaves blocked the gutter and the rain apparently poured inside. The top floors are unusable and pending further investigations, the three families living on the upper floors will have to leave their respective apartments.
Where will they go? The solution proposed by Aler is that of flywheel apartments for emergencies which are however only present in Milan. Alternatively, tenants will be able to be hosted by relatives or friends, but not everyone has the possibility and asks to be hosted in a hotel. «I have bronchopneumonia – a tenant who entered the Aler apartment 20 years ago tells us -, in here we breathe mold and humidity. It is not human to live in these conditions.” Present at Mayor Lorenzo Radice also inspected with the delegated councilor for housing policies, Mario Brambilla.
