Many regrets, especially for the injuries that have compromised the last few games, but for the rossoblu the balance is still positive

Time to take stock also for Rovigo, which concluded its Serie A Elite championship one step away from the final, having escaped in the playoff derby against Petrarca 24-22. A defeat that hurt, especially because the rossoblu would have wanted to try to defend the title until the end.

“Rovigo was a team built to win the championship, unfortunately we were unable to reach the objective and this is a negative thing” he told The Gazzettino of Rovigo sports director Polla Roux.

The overall balance, however, is still positive: “By beating the finalists Petrarca and Viadana twice in the regular season we demonstrated that we were capable of confirming the championship on our shirts, it’s a shame we didn’t take the opportunity.” The regrets come from some avoidable defeats: “In the home defeat and draw with Lyons and Mogliano we lost precious points which cost us dearly in the end. By finishing first we would have avoided Petrarca, a rival that is better to find in the final than in the semi-final.”

Injuries also had an impact, as Roux explains: “The two hookers broke, taking away the weapon of the dominant scrum and maul. Against Valorugby Atkins fractured and the season went in the wrong direction: playing the semi-finals without the best foot in the championship is serious, because it’s precisely the foot that makes you win those matches. In fact, Petrarca had just recovered its best player, Lyle, and we had lost him.”

Now look forward to next season: “The only thing to do now is to look forward, find players to be competitive and bring enthusiasm to the city. That’s what we will do with the new signings.”

“We have achieved some small objectives: a strong package, a good player, growth in some players, competitiveness, best defense in the championship with the work of Joe Van Nikerk, expansion and investment in the staff. Unfortunately not the big goal, the championship. Let’s try again” concluded Polla Roux.
