they will be engaged in an international training program

The ‘Giovanni Paolo II’ Institute in Bari welcomes for the first time the students of the international training program ‘Doctors in Italy Fellowship’. From this week, and until the end of July, a group of 18 students, coming from the United States, Nepal, Brazil and Mexico, will frequent, as observers, some of the operational and research units of the Institute, participating in particular in the surgical activity in the operating room.

We joyfully welcome these students – declared the general director Alessandro Delle Donne – because we strongly believe in the value of transmitting knowledge. Here, students arriving from the other side of the world will find competence, professionalism and, above all, those good practices of attention to the patient and the humanization of care that are the hallmark of our Institute. Educational, scientific and healthcare collaboration with universities and public and private biomedical training centers has always been part of the mission of this institute which, let us remember, is a scientific hospital and treatment institute. Also thanks to these young students, we aim to develop international collaborative relationships with institutions and companies, to enhance and facilitate the transfer of knowledge in the oncology field“.

The international training program is a proposal from the Doctors Today company, which for years has been organizing training programs with Italian hospitals for students and graduates in medicine or other healthcare faculties, coming from all countries of the world. In Bari, the students (mostly third or fourth year medical students) divided into small groups and guided by an internal tutor, will closely follow the daily progress of medical assistance for cancer patients. The initiative, which is part of the exchange programs of the scientific management of the Institute, is coordinated by Professor Gennaro Cormio, director of the Institute’s gynecological oncology operational unit which, in 2022, became one of the university clinics of the School of Medicine of the University of Bari, thanks to a memorandum of understanding signed between the Institute, the University of Bari and the Puglia Region.

This initiative – commented the president of the Institute’s Steering and Verification Council, Gero Grassi – confirms the vocation of this Institute, that is, research and staff training, through qualified national and international research programs“.
