Multi-storey building in via Dante open from 13 June

CREMONA – From Thursday 13 June the new car park in Via Dante will be open. Three floors, for a total of 440 seats, to which are added the external ones entering from via Dante. The work could have been completed with the two floors envisaged in the original project, but, following a careful evaluation, it was deemed appropriate to also build the third floor which otherwise would no longer have been built.

This is a decidedly notable increase in parking spaces right near the station, with intermodality planned with trains, electric mobility and local public transport. More spaces will be available for electric vehicles with the placement of charging stations. The spaces reserved for disabled people are located on the ground floor: 3 near the entrance on via Dante, 13 near the entrance on via della Vecchia Dogana.

Furthermore, in July work will begin on the renovation of the level car park (via Elda Fezzi), already used today, for another 90 spaces. An area next to the new car park is already used as a construction site and, for this reason, cannot be used for traffic. As part of this project, RFI took steps to demolish a dilapidated building it owned: in this way an area was finally freed which can be valorised for the benefit of Via Dante and the whole area.

With the arrangement of via Dante and via della Vecchia Dogana and with the arrangement of the cycle paths and accessible shelters, what has been achieved, together with the next steps described, is part of a significant regeneration of the sector for the benefit of commuters, residents of the neighbourhood, with a rationalization of ring and intermodal parking and thus giving a boost to sustainable mobility. The interventions already announced by RFI in the bus station square and at the railway station are also envisaged, such as, for example, the bicycle speed station.

The overall financing for the parking is equal to 3,250,000.00 euros divided as follows: 1,650,000.00 euros by the Region, 1,500,000.00 euros allocated by the Municipality and 100,000.00 by the Government. While waiting for the completion of the parking lot, the temporary road system to access the car park is as follows:

  • Entrance from via Dante and via della Vecchia Dogana (both allow access to the stalls reserved for disabled people)
  • Exit from via Elda Fezzi
