Cerebral stroke, a prestigious award for the Neurology of the ASP of Ragusa

The Complex Neurology/Stroke Unit of the ASP of Ragusa has received an important recognition: the “Platinum Awards” assigned by SITS International (Safe Implementation of Treatments in Stroke) of the prestigious Karolinska Institute in Stockholm and by the European Stroke Organization. This award is intended for the Italian Stroke Units with the best performances in the acute management of cerebral stroke.

Statements by Dr. Antonello Giordano

The Dr. Antonello Giordano, director of the Unit, underlined that this recognition rewards the work of the entire Neurology team. He highlighted the team’s ability to carry out intravenous thrombolytic treatment in the hospitals of Ragusa, Vittoria and Modica. Furthermore, he highlighted the importance of multidisciplinary teamwork involving the Admission and Emergency Medicine and Surgery and Radiology operating units.

Successes of the diagnostic therapeutic assistance path (PDTA)

The introduction of the PDTA for Stroke by the ASP of Ragusa has led to notable improvements: reduction in the mortality ratelower than the national average. Reduction of treatment timesalso lower than the national average. Increase in the number of recanalization interventionsi.e. more than 120 interventions carried out in 2023.

The Dr. Giordano thanked the staff of the Neurology UOC of Vittoria, Ragusa and Modica, including doctors, nurses, technicians and social health workers, coordinated by Angela Vicenzino. He highlighted how each award is a sign of improved patient care, the primary goal of their daily work.
