After the first two years of shared activity, a group of entrepreneurs from Bari and the Bat will present the nascent ‘Certified Sustainability Community of the Apulian Rural Economy’ at Fiera del Levante for the G7, which includes eight companies: Agricola Pinto and Tenuta Pinto from Mola di Bari, Tersan Puglia from Modugno, Tormaresca from Minervino Murge, Frantoio Muraglia from Andria, Pantaleo Agricoltura from Speziale from Fasano, Andriani Spa from Gravina di Puglia, Marchiato Fresco and the web TV Foglie from Conversano.

On Friday 14 June at Fiera del Levante, the ‘Community of the Apulian rural economy with certified sustainability’ will create a cooking show curated by the young executive chef Giuseppe Pedone (Tenuta Pinto). The event will also feature mini tastings of typical Apulian products, in the stand which will be active from 11 to 15 June.

The G7 event at the Fiera del Levante will be the first occasion on which the Community will present itself in public to share the 24 months of work during which the CIHEAM (Centre International de Hautes Études Agronomiques Méditerranéennes) based in Bari, scientifically accompanied its constitution. They are aggregated in an informal network of eight companies in the agricultural, agri-food and catering sectors united in an ongoing scientific case study. The value of the Community’s proposal lies in the new vision recommended by CIHEAM which envisages a sustainable Community, as it proposes to follow a scientific certification path based on sustainability indicators measurable in all phases of the supply chain. The content of the sponsorship project was presented at Palazzo Chigi through a specific announcement: the ‘Community of the Apulian rural economy with certified sustainability’ was admitted to the public notice.

The land on which to grow is common to all these companies in the Community, which want to stand out for their ‘certified sustainability’. Wet waste, such as crop cuttings or food residues, are given to the Tersan Puglia company in Modugno which transforms them into fertilizer.

The result obtained so far in approximately 24 months of experimental activity in the fields of two provinces has highlighted how land fertilized in this way improves production. Added to this, some of these eight companies have obtained or are obtaining the carbon footprint certification (i.e. the ecological footprint) which distinguishes companies with certified sustainability.
