Arvedi Group, Fiom representatives in Cremona: eyes on Acciai Terni

«There are 2,400 workers plus at least 1,500 related industries waiting for answers. Resources for decarbonisation are running out, available only until May 2026, resources that Italy has not yet used. The company assumes its responsibilities and reopens the discussion on an industrial level and Minister Urso immediately summons the trade unions to Mimit”. This is the warning from the national secretariat of Fiom Cgil, regarding Acciai speciali Terni, on the sidelines of the RSU summit of all the Arvedi group sites, which was held in recent days in Cremona. From the discussion between secretaries and delegates, the need to speed up the resolution of the Terni affair strongly emerged which, as the metalworkers of the CGIL pointed out, casts shadows on the entire group, given the
slowdown in investments at all sites, including in Trieste, even more so in light of what is happening in the field of energy and scrap policies.

The summit in Lombardy They met for the first time in Cremona with the national Fiom, the RSU and the territorial structures of the Fiom interested in the Arvedi Group which has 6,600 workers; is the second Italian steel group after the former Ilva,
certainly from a technological point of view and variety of production, one of the most advanced in Europe and the world. It produces approximately 5 million tons per year of flat-rolled steel in various types, including tubes and forgings. Furthermore, it sells and produces patented electric rolling furnace iron and steel plants in various parts of the world. Fiom is the first representative organization in the group, in terms of number of RSUs and presence in all plants. Representatives from the sites of Terni, Trieste, Sestri Levante and obviously Cremona were present, while in recent days representatives of the various service centers of the group scattered around the country had also made contact.

Goodbye The initiative organized by Fiom of Cremona gave the opportunity to start an initial discussion on the situation of the group, the factories as well as the industrial strategies, investments and critical issues. The interventions demonstrated the need for meetings of this magnitude to be held periodically in order to build common ideas and sensitivities and a new trade union strategy, useful for growth but also for consolidating the culture carried forward by Fiom within the group, made up of participation , general and local analysis and consequent collective actions. All
this not only in light of the situation of steel workers grappling with the transformations of the sector but also in light of the geopolitical and climatic crises that are affecting all workers, contexts that form the backdrop and influence the just started negotiations for the renewal of the workers’ contracts metalworkers. It was therefore decided to update the comparison shortly, also to share the various contractual experiences in the various sites, obviously different in terms of histories and traditions.
