Corsi is the new rector, he is the first from Teramo and the youngest of the public universities – Teramo

TERAMO. Professor Christian Corsi, director of the Department of Communication Sciences, is the new rector of the University of Teramo. Professor Dino Mastrocola’s successor prevailed, with 239 votes, over Professor Salvatore Cimini, who obtained 232 votes, and who, until March 3rd, held the position of general director of the University.

533 voters were called to the polls: 262 teachers, 185 technical-administrative and library staff and 86 student representatives. 492 voted, the turnout was 92.5%. Corsi will replace the outgoing Dino Mastrocola starting from November 1st and will remain in office for six academic years, until 2030.

The election took place this evening after the counting of the votes expressed by the students, teachers and technical and administrative staff of the University who went to the single polling station set up in the thesis room of the Spaventa center on the Coste Sant’Agostino campus.

Professor Christian Corsi is the youngest rector of an Italian public university and the first from Teramo to hold the position in the history of the University. He is full professor in Business Economics in the Department of Communication Sciences; he was dean and subsequently director of the Department of the same name.

He was Pro-Rector for Incoming Orientation, Placement and Student Welfare; he was coordinator of the Master’s Degree Course Economics and Communication for Management and Innovation in partnership with the University of Rome “La Sapienza”. He is currently coordinator of the PhD course in Economics in Social Science at the University of Teramo, and holds a teaching position at the University of Naples “Federico II”.

He was a member of the CRUI commission “Budget and economic and financial management of universities”. He is a member of scientific committees of international journals, including International Journal of Business Competition and Growth, Management Control, International Journal of Management and Enterprise Development, International Journal of Business Environment, Journal of Business Economics and Management. This is the program he presented and led to his election as Magnificent Rector: “A new model of development: the systemic University” The new model of the “Systemic University” which considers the University of Teramo as an organism in which Didactics , Research, Third Mission (relations with the territory) are strictly interconnected to achieve common objectives.

This will allow us to generate significant growth for the University and for the entire territory. The application method: the shared construction of a programmatic proposal Christian Corsi started the process of formulating the program in April 2023 with the aim of considering the opinions, plans, expectations and proposals of the UNITE community.

To date, the phases that have characterized and will characterize the construction of his proposal have been: 453 individual meetings, 16 group meetings, 8 assemblies. His project for the University of Teramo is based on two directions: innovation and inclusion. Together with the students and all the members of the UNITE Community, a competitive and cohesive University must be built, capable of including and enhancing diversity in an environment that favors the sharing of ideas and contamination of knowledge. Students at the center The proposed actions intend to impact the quality of life of students: from the establishment of a permanent table in constant dialogue with the Rector to the rethinking of the fee modulation system; from improving the efficiency of the public transport network to expanding the categories of student collaboration grants, as well as the institutional dialogue necessary to guarantee the attribution of grants to protect the right to study.

Research: engine of progress Establishment of a new Research Fundrising area for the identification of funds for research and the activation of European projects; creation of interdisciplinary research thematic centers in collaboration with international universities and research centers; development of international mobility programs for research; creation of a research-innovation-action platform; strengthening of the School of Higher Education in Research; promotion of gender equality in research.

Inclusive and future-oriented teaching To combat the phenomenon of dropouts and offer future-oriented teaching, Christian Corsi proposes to: implement teaching experimentation projects (flipped classroom, gamification, debate); enhance project-based teaching, extended reality and artificial intelligence; actions to encourage interdisciplinary teaching; promotion of merit through paths of excellence; open educational resources.

The Third Mission as a development lever for the community The main initiatives of the Third Mission concern: creation of a laboratory for innovation and entrepreneurship; establishment of UNITE entrepreneurial education, a non-conventional entrepreneurial training program; establishment of “UNITEcube” incubator for start-ups and spin-offs; implementation of “OpenUNITE”, Open Innovation platform; development of ComUNITE, a permanent platform for exchange initiatives with the territory. These actions will contribute to the creation of a virtuous process of value creation also in support of the territory.

Internationalisation: a University open to the world Some of the proposed actions concern: strengthening and expanding international agreements and strengthening the Erasmus+ programme; establishment of the Internship Exchange Network, a network of international internships and internships; strengthening of the University Language Center; improvement of double-degree and international joint degree systems; creation of an International Innovation Hub. Special projects Citadel of culture.

The redevelopment of the complex of the former Sant’Antonio Abate Psychiatric Hospital in Teramo is strategic to more forcefully define the vocation of the City of Teramo as a university city. The renovation of the complex is planned for the creation of classrooms, scientific laboratories, administrative offices, reading areas, a library, classrooms, study rooms and conference rooms, a multipurpose space for cultural performances also open to events and projects of the City of Teramo .

Completion of the AgriBioSerV European research center The project plan of the AgriBioSerV European research center includes interventions for the construction of new laboratories and the transfer of the Zebrafish laboratory to the Spaventa Centre; of redevelopment of the former canteen building in Coste Sant’Agostino and creation of structures to support industrial research activities such as pilot plants, 4 laboratories, 3 workshop rooms, open-office workstation and offices for a total of 700 square metres.

Construction of the new Veterinary Medicine complex The construction of a new block in Piano d’Accio has as its main objective the creation of new structures for the research groups of Animal Anatomy and Physiology, Pathological Anatomy, Inspection of foods of animal origin and Infectious diseases and parasitic diseases. The renovated Center involves the completion of shelter spaces for animal hospitalization useful for functionally uniting in a single location all the structures and services, including those open to the territory and aimed at the Third Mission of the Department.
