Sensational decision of the Court of Cassation, the ermine judges have in fact annulled the double life sentence inflicted, first in the first instance and then confirmed on appeal, against Michele Olimpio and Francesco Napolitano, historic regents of the Mallardo clan of Giugliano. Both were on trial for the murder of Mario Di Lorenzo, which occurred way back in ’96.
Defended by lawyers Antonio Russo, Giuliano Russo and Celestino Gentilethe two defendants will therefore have to face a new appeal trial.
The person who framed them was the repentant Caracallo, who died some time ago. Caracallo showed up at the Carabinieri barracks in Giugliano asking for protection, accusing himself of extortion and murder committed since the beginning of the 1990s. Among these there was also that of Di Lorenzo.
His statements got the “big shots” who would have led and continued to lead, in the event of his release from prison, the Carlantonio gang into trouble: Michele Olimpio alias ‘o bumbularo and Francesco Napolitano were accused of the “cold case” of the murder of Mario Di Lorenzo in ’96.
Napolitano was accused of having been, as pro tempore regent of the clan, the instigator of the murder, decided following the repeated violations of the “rules” of the Camorra organization of which Di Lorenzo himself was part; while Michele Olimpio was accused of having been the material executor of the criminal action in collaboration with Filippo Caracallo.
