On 14 June, World Blood Donor Day is celebrated around the world, promoted for the 20th year by the OSM as international recognition to all the people who every day guarantee blood and the right to health to those who need it.
To celebrate the event, many municipalities will light up the most significant monuments in red as a sign of thanks to the over 30,000 donors in the province who keep the light of solidarity lit every day.
In Modena the fountain of the Two Rivers in Largo Garibaldi will light up red, in Lama Mocogno the monumental staircase, in Formigine the Castle, in Maranello the Town Hall and the Auditorium, in Pavullo the bridge in Piazza Cesare Battisti, in Nonantola the Avis headquarters and the Torre dei Modenesi.
Among the initiatives of the municipal Avis, worth mentioning is the weekend of celebration in Prignano on the 15th and 16th for the 50th anniversary of the foundation of the section, with the possibility of a hot air balloon flight on Saturday afternoon, street food, DJ sets and a walk on Sunday, while Avis Medolla organizes the Camminavis…lenta for the 14th and Avis Cavezzo the Un Giro in Bici bicycle ride.
Avis Carpi will celebrate the event on June 23rd with the 4th 3 by 3 mixed BeachAvis Tournament.
The final event promoted by Avis Provinciale, in collaboration with the Emilia Centrale Parks Authority, will be held on Saturday 15 June at the Sassi of Roccamalatina with A Day at the Sassi open to all which includes excursions between art, history and nature with the environmental guides of the Park, different possibility of outdoor lunch, games for children and a historical themed meeting on the war events that occurred in the area.

Finally, on Sunday 16 June Avis will be in Piazza Mazzini together with the gift associations Aido and Admo for an afternoon of games for adults and children and a soap bubble workshop, in collaboration with Modenamoremio.
In the province of Modena, donations of blood, plasma and platelets in the first five months of 2024 recorded an increase of 4.30% compared to the same period of 2023, with a total of 25,226 units collected, of which 13,629 were whole blood and 10,875 of plasma: a figure which increased by 20.35% compared to May last year.
The increase in plasma donations compared to blood donations is the result of Avis’ commitment and the response of donors in boosting the collection of plasma, an indispensable element for the production of life-saving drugs, of which Italy is still lacking.
