The first meeting of the European project (HORIZON-JU-CBE-2023) coordinated by Novamont and which aims to demonstrate the effectiveness of bio-based solutions for the packaging sector, improving performance, circularity and efficient use, took place in Novara. of resources throughout the value chain.

The project, called “TERRIFIC”, is one of the four flagship projects financed in 2024 by the Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE), the public-private partnership between the European Union and the Consortium of Bio-based Industries (BIC, Bio-based Industries Consortium), which supports the development of the European bio-based industry. This is an initiative, financed with over 16 million euros, dedicated to the development and demonstration of eight innovative solutions using renewable raw materials dedicated to the packaging sector.

The project, of which Novamont is the leader, sees the participation of 19 partners, including 4 SMEs, from 9 European countries.

One of the objectives is to valorise the by-products of agro-industrial supply chains and produce compostable and recyclable biopolyesters and biomaterials with over 95% renewable content.

“Bio-based and biodegradable materials are an important tool for developing smart solutions in the logic of the circular bioeconomy and this project will have to demonstrate in practice all the innovation potential of these versatile materials in the field of packaging, integrating a multiplicity of technologies, connecting different supply chains and promoting diversified solutions in the territories”, declared Catia Bastioli, CEO of Novamont (Versalis, Eni).
