Cesena, 10 June 2024 – It was one long night. This is demonstrated by the fact that the latest update on the website of Municipality of Cesena dedicated to European elections it is dated 4.15 in the morning.
While dawn was breaking over the city, the administrative horizon of our territory also began to take shape, because if it is true that the votes for the European elections they are not to be translated in a mirror-like manner onto the context concerning the appointment of new mayor (in particular the role of the civic lists is still to be evaluated), the trend that appeared from the first count is quite clear.
Abstentionism
The numbers relating to the 98 sections scrutinized speak, which correspond to the totality of those present in Cesena. The first reference has no political colour, and is in any case a defeat for everyone: the percentage of voters, which although compared to the national figure of less than 50% (49.69%) is vastly higher, stopped at 62.30% , 8 points less than the 70.45% of the 2021 local elections. Which means that for approximately 40% of voters, no proposal was convincing. It’s a serious problem that continues to grow year after year.
The results of the national parties in the city
In any case, history is written by those who go to the polling station and so here we are at the objective data of European and estimates on administrative.
TO Cesena the Democratic Party has spread, reaching numbers almost double the national ones: 40.98% against the 24% collected by the party of Schlein along the country, thus being largely the first party, ahead of Brothers of Italy which settled at 27.09% (28.08% on a national scale), with a clear exploit compared to 5 years ago, given that in 2019 the deployment of Giorgia Meloni he did not enter the city council.
At the same time, the allies of Governmentstarting from League, which fell to 4.97%, a breath more than Forza Italia which instead stopped at 4.93%. Returning to the centre-left alignment, in relation to the European elections, the 5 Star Movement obtained 6.77% of the votes, closely followed by Greens and Left Alliance (6.08%). However, there is a gap at 3.21%. Action.
So, it’s time for the calculator: adding the main forces of the center left (and always counting only the data from the European elections, given that the counting of the administrative elections will begin at 2 pm today), the main parties that at city level support the candidacy of Enzo Lattuca they would reach 57.04%, a figure that would guarantee the outgoing mayor a large margin of victory in the first round, with the centre-right coalition stopping at 36.99%. Adding the two percentages, we arrive at 94% of the votes, with the remaining 6% divided between the political forces that obtained less consensus.
The civic lists
The local framework however, it is more complex, which is why it is still too early to talk about certainties. The balance of power in Cesena will in fact be played by the civic lists, which on the one hand are placed on both sides, but which above all support another candidate for mayor: the aforementioned Lettuce it’s at Marco Casali which represents the centre-right coalition, it is necessary to add, in addition to Paolo Sensini Of ‘For Peace and the Common Good’Also Marco Giangrandisupported by ‘Cesena is us’, ‘Let’s change’ And ‘Italia Viva – Cesena at the center’.
Obviously all these references were not present in the brown sheet referring to the composition of European Parliament and therefore the variables in play remain significant. At least until the counting begins.
