Two European champions at the BPER Savona. The Ligurian club has formalized the return to the red and white of the 32-year-old left-handed player from Settebello Luca Damonte (player he had anticipated this to Waterpolo Development a few weeks ago) and the hiring of 27-year-old Russian Daniil Merkulovboth from Ferencvaros who won the Champions League Final Four in Malta on Friday. Damonte left Savona in 2018, the team that launched him in A1 after his first training period at Arenzano: in his career he played with Nervi, Brescia, Sport Management and Telimar, before winning everything with Ferencvaros, in which he played for the last 3 seasons.

Merkulov also comes from three extraordinary years in Budapest, after experiences in Montenegro at Jadran Herceg Novi and in Croatia at Jug, seasons in which he evolved as a player under the guidance of Zsolt Varga and Balazs Nyeki: from a pure striker, gifted with a great shot, Merkulov transformed himself into a very effective defender, a role in which he shone in the Champions League Final Four, being among the best players on the Hungarian team. With Damonte and Merkulov, Savona keeps alive the ambition of being able to fight for the championship with Pro Recco next season.
