PERUGIA – From the executive project of the Brt, the Perugia Metrobus which will connect Castel del Piano with via Sicilia close to the Fontivegge station, “the part of the design relating to the section of via Chiusi” has been removed. The one that goes from the new roundabout planned on the San Vetturino road to the existing roundabout named after Donato Fezzuoglio. The final word, i.e. the acquisition of the necessary authorization, will be up to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport. This is reported by a resolution of the municipal council (number 212) of recent days. For the stretch of Via Chiusi, residents and associations had mobilized with assemblies and signs posted along the road. Above all, the issue of greenery ended up at the center of the debate, with particular regard to the impact of the works on existing trees.
Regarding the removed part, the same resolution underlines that «the objective expected from this revision is to obtain greater protection and valorisation of the arboreal heritage which, going well beyond mere legal obligations, allows the maximum value to be achieved towards a balance complete with the tree species felled because they interfered with the route, in order to increase the environmental benefit deriving from the construction of the transport line in question”. An objective which, the document continues, can be «pursued through a review of the choices for adapting the road route, without affecting the transport parameters of the original ministerial tender and which allowed its eligibility for financing». The changes will have to go through ministerial approval and only after this phase will the revision package be approved by the Municipality, which will then be able to start the construction phase. It should be remembered that the operational machine has been in motion for some time with the first phase of checks and possible clearance of residues of war ordnance along the line. A phase still in progress.
PROJECT AND BUS
The overall cost of the intervention, financed with Pnrr funds, amounts to 111 million euros. The heart of the project will be 13 new vehicles, the 18-metre Man Lion’s City buses, articulated and electric with rechargeable batteries at the stops, therefore non-polluting. Eight will always be operational, the remaining will be stored at the new Vestricciano depot, ready for use in case of breakdowns. With white drawings on a red background, therefore the colors of the city, they will have depicted the main symbols of the capital. The griffin above all, with a strong visual impact. According to data provided during a public meeting organized some time ago in San Sisto, it is estimated that there will be 750 passengers per hour in each direction on the Perugia Metrobus vehicles. At full capacity there will be 16,500 users per day, although at the beginning there could be between 10 and 12 thousand. Estimates based on the fact that the area served is a densely populated area full of services. There is certainly a lot of focus on the fact that a significant part of the users will be linked to the comings and goings that take place every day at the Santa Maria della Misericordia hospital complex, where there will be 2 scheduled stops.
From the moment of start-up, the progress of the construction site will inevitably cause inconveniences. A dedicated call center has been announced to provide information and support. The works will however lead to a series of redevelopment interventions in the neighborhoods affected. Widening of the roadway, adaptation of sidewalks to ensure universal accessibility to vehicles, maintenance of greenery.
