ANCONA – As was already clear on the first day of voting, the definitive turnout for the European elections and for the local elections in the Marche region is confirmed to be decreasing when the polls close. Only just over half of the people of the Marche region voted to renew the European Parliament, despite the fact that election day also included voting to renew the mayor and municipal council in 148 municipalities. While the gap with the previous European elections exceeds 7 percentage points, that for the local elections is less wide and remains limited to around 4 percentage points less.

At 11pm yesterday, the 1,572 sections the turnout for the European elections stopped at 54.50%while for the administrative ones the data relating to 786 sections stands at 63.04%, down compared to the previous electoral round when 67.34% of voters voted, while 62.09% of voters voted for the European elections.

The highest turnout for the European elections was recorded in the province of Pesaro Urbino where 62.45% voted of voters, immediately behind the province of Ascoli Piceno where 57.90% of those entitled to vote went to the polls. In the province of Ancona 52.03% of voters voted, while in the Macerata area 50.93%. The lowest figure comes from Fermo where the turnout stopped at 48.69%.

For the administrative elections which involved 148 municipalities in the Marche region, the most virtuous province was that of Ascoli Piceno with 66.52% of voters who went to the polls, followed by the province of Pesaro Urbino with 64.19% of those entitled to vote. Immediately behind is the province of Fermo with 66.10% of voters. In the province of Ancona at 11pm 61.45% of voters had voted, while in the Macerata area 58.96%. After counting the ballots for the European elections during the night, the counting for the municipal elections is scheduled for 2pm today.
