The Italian Absolute Fencing Championships took place over the weekend in Cagliari, the last competition before the Olympics, with the participation of the best athletes to win the overall Italian title of the various weapons.
In the women’s épée, the athlete from Asti Francesca Gentile was placed in a very difficult group with all athletes positioned better in the national ranking, but she managed to obtain 2 victories out of 6 matches reaching 58th place in the provisional ranking.
In the first live broadcast she defeated 15 to 11 FINIZIO Ida from Mangiarotti of Milan but in the second live broadcast she had to surrender 12 to 15 to PIATTI Sabrina from Marchesa Torino and finished in 53rd place in the final ranking. The race was won by RIZZI Giulia from Fiamme Oro Roma. The first 6 athletes will all be athletes from the armed forces and will certainly be protagonists at the next Olympics.
The Regional Silver 3-Weapon Championship also took place in Valenza over the weekend with the participation of Giada Barbero, who ranked 5th after a great group with 4 wins out of 4. She passed the first direct by right but was defeated in the second to enter the 4 from Tresso. E. della Marchesa while Chiara Secci gets 1 win out of 4 in the groups and in the first live match she is defeated by Antonioli A. della Marchesa Torino.
In the men’s épée, Simone Sartor achieved 1 victory out of 6 in the group but in the first live match to enter the 32 he was defeated by Savarino G of Circolo Scherma Collegno, finishing in 35th place.
The athlete Giada Barbero also participated in the saber competition, which she has been practicing for some years, and with 2 victories out of 4 in the single group she avoided the first live match but was defeated by Riboldi U. of the Schema Alba company, thus placing her in 3rd place
