On the occasion of the “ELROW TOWN” Festival in Reggio Emilia, the Traffic Police, following the indications received from the Committee for Public Order and Security, organized a vast service of 18 patrols in total, aimed at ensuring regular traffic in the city throughout the day as well as massive checks on vehicles and drivers. All this happened both in the inflow and outflow phases at the Boulevard of the Campovolo Arena, where the demonstration was held which involved around 30 thousand people.
Therefore, 108 drivers were checked, of which 15 tested positive in the blood alcohol test. Specifically, 8 people were administratively sanctioned and 7 of them were charged as they were found to have a blood alcohol level above 0.8 g/l. In any case, all drivers had their licenses suspended with the material immediate collection of the document by the traffic agents. It should be noted that, among those sanctioned, one of those referred to the AG was a new driver and another was reported for “resistance” because, after the first of the two blood alcohol tests aimed at verifying the exact blood alcohol level, he drove away in the vehicle without authorization from the place of the investigations, essentially fleeing. About two hours later he presented himself again to the officers, probably realizing the much worse consequences that his initiative would have entailed, considering also the fact that he had previously left his traffic documents with the same investigating policemen. In addition to the charge for “resistance”, he was charged with driving while intoxicated as he had a blood alcohol level above 0.8 g/l.
Finally, one of the many sober parents who had gone to collect their children at the end of the Festival was also reported, as he was driving with the car’s lights not working and with a license that had expired since 2018.
