The eighteenth century is one of the most controversial periods in history, as it was at the same time the era of the Enlightenment and the theater of bloody battles, ruthless absolutisms and no less bloody revolutions. In this century there lived brilliant scientists and artists of extraordinary talent, as well as several characters who stood out for their adventurous nature, from Casanova to Cagliostro and from Prévost to Da Ponte, men who had no hesitation in placing themselves in stark contrast with the strict social rules of the time, almost always ending up paying a high price for their courage, which in their youth had guaranteed them wealth, power and success with women.
